Following a European tour and growing international presence, metalcore band FAKE ISLAND released their first full-length album, Cell Division.
Equal.studio was responsible for the art direction and graphic design of the album cover, booklet, and social campaign visuals. The visual identity was developed to reflect both the meaning behind the album title and the band’s evolving sound—an attempt to push metalcore forward with a more melodic yet heavier approach.
Inspired by the title Cell Division, the artwork visualizes the idea of division giving rise to something new and expanding into a larger world. An MRI scan of the brain is treated as a single cell, then split open and extended outward to express this process of division and expansion.
